DESCRIPTION

The PPS Wrist Sensor provides accurate pressure sensing and mapping of contact pressures exerted on the wrist by a wearable device.

For wrist wearable technology designers or watch manufacturers who need to balance the latest technology design with the most comfortable fit, the Wrist Sensor can accurately capture and visualize the interaction between the wearable product and the curved shape of the wrist by imaging the applied pressures.

The system features a stretchable fabric wristband secured with adjustable Velcro. A high resolution thin, comfortable Tact-Array based sensor s inserted into a pocket of the band. Depending on the customer specification, the location of the pocket can be positioned anywhere on the band.

Real time visualization and acquisition software is then used to display pressures and to perform real time analysis for evaluating the fit and comfort.

アプリケーション

The Wrist Sensor empowers designers, engineers and medical professionals to improve wrist wearable devices and their fit while using human subjects with various wrist sizes. The comfortable and adjustable band enables collecting data while the wearable device is in use ie. performing a sport activity.

  • Measuring contact pressures between various wrist wearable devices such as watches, smartwatches, wristbands, fitness trackers, smart jewellery and others.

  • High pressure sensitivity means that even the slightest discomfort created by the wearable device on the wrist will be visualized

  • Up to 3 sensors can be inserted into the band to analyse comfort and fitment over the circumference of the wrist

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How many sensors come with a purchase of a PPS Wrist Sensor System?

The sensor system comprises one sensor and one fabric band as standard. However, additional sensors can be added, allowing customization of their placement on the wristband according to your requirements. By tailoring the system to your specifications, we ensure that all sensors operate concurrently, facilitating comprehensive data collection for the most effective fit assessment.

2. Is the Wrist Sensor one-size fits all?

While both the sensing element and fabric band have predetermined dimensions, the fabric strap can be customised. It is also made from stretchable material featuring an adjustable Velcro fastening, thus offering certain flexibility and adjustment option. This design accommodates various wrist sizes and shapes, ensuring a versatile and comfortable fit.

3. Where is the sensing elements located on the wrist sensor?

By default, the sensor pocket is positioned at the top of the wrist, akin to where a conventional watch would be worn. Nevertheless, we offer flexibility in customizing the sensor pocket's location on the wristband to align precisely with your specifications and preferences. Our sales team will engage with you to thoroughly assess your application needs and elaborate on the available options, ensuring that the solution meets your specific requirements.

4. What is the wireless Bluetooth® range of the Wrist Sensor Bluetooth interface?

You can use the system up to 5 meters from the computer in which the Bluetooth® dongle is attached. If a signal interference is an issue, we can also offer a wired interface with 1.5m cable connection.

5. How often does the Wrist Sensor require calibration?

The capacitive based sensing modality of PPS sensors results in an extremely stable sensor with superior reliability and repeatability. With proper use and care, the sensor should retain its calibration for years.

6. Can I use a Wrist Sensor on other areas of the human body, ie. upper arm or ankle?

Certainly, the versatility of our Wrist Sensor allows it to be adapted for use across various locations on the human body, such as the upper arm or ankle, provided it can be securely attached. It is important, however, to consider the device's bending radius, which is approximately 26mm, to ensure optimal functionality and comfort. Our sales team is on hand to discuss these specifications in more detail, and we also provide comprehensive information in the sensor's Quick Start Guide to assist with proper application and usage.

7. What is the sensor pressure range?

The pressure range of the active area of the sensor spans from 3 psi to approximately 15 psi. This range is designed to accommodate a variety of applications, ensuring both sensitivity and durability for diverse application requirements.

8. Do you provide training and how long is the manufacturer's warranty?

Yes, we offer comprehensive training for all our products to ensure our clients can maximize their usage efficiently and safely. Additionally, our products come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty from the date of delivery, covering any defects in materials or workmanship to provide peace of mind and support for your investment.

9. Do you have a datasheet for the sensor?

Yes, the direct link to the datasheet of 6383 sensor, which is incorporated in the Wrist Sensor, can be found here: TactArray Model 6383 Datasheet

10. Is the Wrist Sensor waterproof?

The Wrist Sensor itself is not waterproof. However, to accommodate environments where moisture or water exposure is a concern, we can provide a specially designed PU (polyurethane) pouch. This pouch enhances the sensor's resistance to water, ensuring it can be used in a wider range of activities without compromising its functionality.

11. What are the software requirements for operating the wrist sensor?

The operation of our Wrist Sensor is supported by the Chameleon software, which is included in the purchase price. Comprehensive details regarding software specifications, installation, and operational guidelines can be found in the Chameleon section of our website.
